A family-built fusion of roguelike deckbuilding and real-time tower defense
[Barcelona, Spain – June 26, 2025] Cards and Towers, a genre-blending roguelike where real-time tower defense meets strategic card play, launches July 23 on Steam. Developed by FamilyDevs, a Barcelona-based indie studio led by a father and his two sons, and published by indie publishing platform indie.io, the game challenges players to craft their deck, deploy defenses, and survive wave after wave of relentless enemies.
Cards and Towers combines the strategic depth of deckbuilding with the pressure and pacing of real-time tower defense. Players draw from a deck of over 200 unlockable cards, including Towers, Units, Items, Actives, and Power Cards, and deploy them live on the battlefield to counter increasingly difficult threats. Each run demands quick, tactical decisions with limited resources, where every draw could mean survival or collapse. The twist? Players don’t just build a deck between runs; they evolve it during them, using a unique fusion system that lets cards of the same quality combine into stronger, higher-tier effects mid-play.
The core loop is simple but endlessly replayable: select a deck, survive procedurally generated waves, upgrade and adapt as new threats emerge, and push for higher scores. Cards can be customized and improved with each attempt, while randomized draws, escalating wave difficulty, and evolving strategies ensure that no two playthroughs ever feel the same. With each failed run comes new knowledge and unlocks, creating a steady rhythm of experimentation and progression. Whether players are crafting a slow-burn defense built on high-synergy items or going all-in on aggressive Power Cards and unit spam, the freedom to play their way is always at the heart of the experience.
And for those seeking a competitive edge, Cards and Towers features a global leaderboard, encouraging players to climb the ranks through smart planning, quick decision-making, and perfectly timed combos.
