Set in the darkest period of human history, when unchecked wealth of nobles gave them almost unlimited power, this dark tale of revenge allows players to define the story of Eric of Woldham and become a flicker of light in a bleak, medieval existence.

Tales of Old: Dominus combines open-world Medieval RPG and strategic management of settlements. Players begin the game as Eric returns to his village, only to find it burned to the ground as punishment for rebelling against the imposition of primae nocta laws by the ruling nobility. With nothing to lose, Eric disappears into the woods and tries to survive before planning his revenge. With an emphasis on realism, survival means claiming an enemy settlement, gathering supplies by foraging and crafting, then setting out to improve productive settlements and also defending them from marauders. 

With the kingdom ruined by the Battle of the Brides, where the rebels were defeated and the purges that followed, nobody pays attention to a handful of rebellious poor claiming meager settlements in the neck of the woods. From this humble start, Eric can start his long path to vengeance through a rich and long main storyline filled with multiple characters inspired by history. Mastering different skills and combat mechanics is only the first step: Players are free to shape Eric's destiny in endless combinations, from sticking to classic archetypes of a warrior, ranger, rogue, vanguard, or craftsman, to mixing them to create truly unique approaches to tackle the game's challenges. 

Brutal combat can be made easier with Eric specializing as a smith or fletcher, outfitting himself and his followers with quality weapons that make period-accurate carnage into a bloody spectacle of death. Favoring stealth? Sneaking in under the cover of night and silently dispatching in unchivalrous, but effective ways works just as well as facing them on the field. 

Most importantly, Eric will need to build a force capable of facing the nobles, improving the domains under his banner, hiring companions, and establishing rapport with allies that will appear along the main quest. The economic aspect of Tales of Old allows for subtler methods of rising to power and glory, trading the visceral bloodshed of battle for the bloodless, but no less vicious war of wealth and resources. 

Whatever path players choose, however they shape Eric's destiny, freeing the kingdom from corruption and ending the abuse perpetrated by wretched nobility is the ultimate goal. But how players get there, through chivalry and upstanding actions, underhanded means justified by the ends, or anywhere in between, is up to them.
