Experience a first-person horror adventure where hypothermia is your only ally
[Armenia – June 23, 2025] – Solo developer developer Davit Andreasyan, in partnership with indie.io, invites players to join the ranks of Antarctic explorers in a descent into the polar night and its horrors: NEDRA, a first-person survival horror set in Soviet Antarctica, is now available on Steam for USD 14.99, with a 20% launch discount. Trapped between primordial horrors, insane cultists, and incredible cold, players don the Arctic suit of one Artur Arayan in a desperate struggle for survival, uncovering ancient secrets that were better left alone.
Survival is at the heart of NEDRA's gameplay: When a rescue mission sent out by the Red Star research base goes awry, Arayan is left as the only survivor, crawling into the biting cold out of the burning wreckage and finds refuge in an unmarked Soviet research installation, codenamed Aurora. However, he quickly learns that staying warm and alive puts him in danger: Frostwalkers, twisted remnants of humanity stalking the frigid wastes, are drawn to warmth.
The only ways to survive are to either dash through the blizzard to safety, hoping the monsters fall behind - or deliberately bring Arayan to the edge of hypothermia, when he becomes too cold to be detected. Combat is not a long-term option, as Artur's tools are limited: A crowbar, flare gun, and a blowtorch are scarcely effective against the horrors shambling through the Antarctic snows. Players may bring down one or two Frostwalkers before they’re overwhelmed by more emerging from the snow. But warmth isn’t just risk—it’s opportunity. While heat makes Artur more visible, it also makes the creatures more vulnerable, forcing players to weigh every encounter as both a threat and a potential opening.
This design choice makes every moment outside a shelter into a tense, high-stakes balancing act: Stay warm and risk contact with the monsters? Or stay invisible, slowly freezing to death? Use a dose of painkillers to keep yourself alive for a while longer, while freezing - or down a horrible mix of iodine and alcohol to keep Artur alive? Perhaps, if all else fails, follow in the footsteps of Aurora's crew and bite into one of the Frostwalker worms to render Arayan invisible to his peers, escaping death by putting him on its door?
Should players survive long enough by treading that fine line between life and death, they'll experience a gripping story reaching far beyond a Soviet research program. Ancient mysteries await among the frozen wastes of Antarctica, primordial secrets that put the very nature of the world and humanity's role in the greater order of the universe in question. The plucky Soviet mechanic will discover truths that may have better been left undisturbed - and may have to make an impossible choice no human should be forced to make.
However, that choice is not the end of the story: NEDRA is the first step into an expansive universe created by its sole developer, Davit Andreasyan. It is both a standalone story and a part of a thick spider's web of narratives, mysteries, and lore developed for over twenty years of work in the gaming industry, driven by a passion for the horrific and the mysterious.
Players can take the leap into the horrors of Soviet Antarctica right now, unraveling its mysteries as the game is now available on Steam for 14.99 USD with a 20% launch discount. Follow the developer on X/Twitter for updates straight from the eye of the storm.
